GTA 6: Rockstar explains Jason Duval in LOVE Magazine interview
Rockstar Games has offered new context on GTA 6 protagonist Jason Duval in a LOVE Magazine interview with Rupert Humphries.
- Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative at Rockstar, reportedly stressed that Jason cannot be reduced to one simple explanation for his criminal behavior.
- The source also mentions a release “next month,” but the provided excerpt does not include an exact date and it is unclear which year is meant.
What happened
Rockstar Games has added new context around Jason Duval, one of GTA 6’s two main characters, through LOVE Magazine. In the provided reporting, Rupert Humphries is named as Rockstar’s senior vice president of narrative, and he is said to have explained that Jason is not written as a one-dimensional criminal type.
The core of that explanation is that Jason’s background in Leonida plays a role in how Rockstar frames his behavior and choices. According to the source, that makes the character more complex than a simple explanation based on upbringing or social class.
The available text also says GTA 6 is coming next month, but without an exact release date. That means the source only presents the game as imminent; the specific date or year being referenced is not confirmed in the excerpt.
The supplied material does not include the full passage from the interview, so Humphries’ exact wording cannot be verified. It is also unclear which specific part of Jason’s background Rockstar emphasized most in the conversation.

Background
Jason Duval is one of GTA 6’s protagonists and is linked in the reporting to his life in Leonida. Rockstar uses that background to frame his role in the story, with the emphasis placed on character building rather than a standalone gameplay announcement.
Rupert Humphries is explicitly identified in the source as Rockstar’s senior vice president of narrative. That makes his comments relevant to how the studio is presenting GTA 6’s story, especially with Lucia also playing a major role in broader GTA 6 communication.
The reference to Leonida matters here because the setting is directly tied to Jason’s characterization. The available information does not include additional characters, full quotes, or further technical details about the game.
