Last Flag: the latest multiplayer PvP shooter from Dan Reynolds
Last Flag is an innovative multiplayer PvP game that recently launched from developer Night Street Games. Led by Dan Reynolds, the singer of Imagine Dragons, the game takes a fresh approach to the capture-the-flag concept, reimagining it as a third-person team shooter. In this article, we take a closer look at the core features, gameplay elements, and the future of Last Flag.
Gameplay and features
Last Flag delivers a dynamic gameplay experience where teams battle to capture each other’s flag. It does so within a framework that starts with an important strategic phase: each team has 60 seconds to hide their flag before the action begins. This creates an exciting opening where players have to think about both defense and offense.
Once the action starts, the goal for each team is not only to capture the opponent’s flag, but also to defend their own. Bringing the flag back to your base is not enough to win; after it is returned, a 60-second round follows in which players must try to protect it.
The game features nine unique characters, each with their own special abilities, encouraging strategic teamwork for the best lineups. In addition, players can earn in-game money and spend it on upgrades, adding extra depth to the gameplay.
Free weekends and future updates
In an effort to boost player numbers, Night Street Games has announced that Last Flag will be free to play every weekend until the release of a major summer patch. This patch is expected to bring not only new content, but also a new map called 'Twin Temples' and a new character, 'Graffiti'. This gives both new and returning players a chance to experience the game without an upfront cost.
Available content in the demo
The demo version of Last Flag includes the full game, meaning players can sample the complete experience without making a purchase. In the demo, players have access to the two available maps: Copper Falls and Snowfield. They can also try out all nine characters and earn cosmetic rewards by leveling up.
All progress and rewards earned in the demo will carry over if a player decides to buy the full game, which currently costs $15. This approach is meant to drive more engagement and may help convince players to pick up the game after trying it.
Performance and current player base
Last Flag launched on April 14 and peaked at 558 concurrent players on Steam at release. Those numbers have since dropped, with around 60 active players currently. While the player base is small right now, the game has earned solid reviews on Steam, where it holds a 'Mostly Positive' rating after hundreds of reviews. It’s worth noting that player data for the Epic Games Store is currently unavailable.

Time will tell whether its strategic approach is enough to build a long-lasting and engaged player community.
