LEGO Sega Genesis console set announced for 2026

LEGO and Sega have unveiled a new collaboration with the announcement of a buildable Sega Genesis console set. This set marks LEGO's second model based on Sega's retro gaming system and is scheduled to release on June 1, 2026.

Set specifications

The LEGO Sega Genesis set, numbered 40926, includes 479 pieces and measures 4.5 inches long and 6 inches wide. The set will retail for $39.99. What makes this product especially notable is that it lets builders customize the model with stickers so it can be displayed as either the U.S. Sega Genesis or the international Mega Drive version. That added flexibility gives the set an extra dose of nostalgia.

What's included

The set includes a console, a removable game cartridge, and two controllers. Curious builders will also find a Sonic the Hedgehog mosaic hidden beneath the cartridge slot, revealed when the cover is opened.

LEGO's history with retro consoles

This isn't the first time LEGO has turned to retro gaming hardware. In 2020, the company began producing sets based on iconic gaming consoles such as the NES and the Game Boy. The first Sega set was a 260-piece controller offered as a Gift with Purchase in September 2025. That model sold out quickly, making the larger and more accessible new Sega Genesis set even more notable now that it's set to launch.

Future releases

Alongside the announced Sega Genesis set, there are also rumors that LEGO will expand its lineup with more sets based on Sega IPs in 2026. In August 2026, at least two Sonic the Hedgehog sets are expected, including a replica of Tails's Tornado-1 plane for $29.99 and a second set for $49.99. There is also talk of the first LEGO PlayStation 1 set arriving in December 2026, according to recent information.
