Ms. Marvel possibly seen in Avengers: Doomsday

A recent suggestion from actor Andy Serkis, best known for playing Gollum, has fueled speculation about Kamala Khan’s return as Ms. Marvel in Avengers: Doomsday. Ms. Marvel is played by Iman Vellani, who last appeared in 2023’s The Marvels. So far, however, Vellani is not listed on the film’s official Avengers: Doomsday cast list.

Announcements and speculation

During an interview on Cinemahub, Vellani and Serkis shared their excitement about their upcoming projects, including Serkis’ return as Gollum in a new film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. During the conversation, there was a notable exchange in which Serkis seemed to hint that Vellani may be involved in Doomsday.

In the discussion, Vellani says: “I can’t wait to see you in Doomsday!” Serkis then responds: “No, you can’t say that!” and the dialogue continues with light jokes about the chances of her appearing in the film. That has left the impression that there may be more going on than just a joke.

Ms. Marvel’s absence from the cast list

Despite Serkis’ comments, Marvel has not officially confirmed Vellani’s role in the film. Ms. Marvel’s absence from the cast list may be tied to Marvel’s strategic choices for its upcoming films.

Vellani’s character was last seen building a new Young Avengers team. That seems to suggest plans for further development of her character and involvement in future stories. It would not be unusual for Marvel to save major appearances for later reveals, especially given recent announcements involving other characters such as Cassie Lang, played by Kathryn Newton.

What comes after Avengers: Doomsday?

There are strong signs that Vellani, along with other Young Avengers, could appear in a limited role in Doomsday, especially now that Marvel is planning additional filming. The expectation is that some of the less prominent characters may be added during these reshoots, paving the way for a bigger role in the future Avengers: Secret Wars.

If the Young Avengers do show up in Doomsday, it could set fans up for a longer storyline around their characters, including a possible film project in the future.
