Path of Exile 2: important updates for the upcoming release

Path of Exile 2, the long-awaited sequel to the popular action RPG, is moving closer to its full release with several major updates and new content. Developer Grinding Gear Games has announced that the game will soon officially leave early access and receive its full 1.0 release in 2026. The latest major update

The latest major update for Path of Exile 2, titled Return of the Ancients, is scheduled for 29 May 2026. This patch marks the end of the early access period and introduces more than 50 hours of new endgame content, including five new storylines and 15 new bosses. In addition, players will discover two new Ascendancy classes: Martial Artist and Spirit Walker. The update will also completely rework the Atlas Tree, giving players even more ways to customize the endgame experience.

Steam Deck support

With the upcoming patch, Path of Exile 2 will also gain Steam Deck support. The change in verification will take place with patch 0.5.0 on 29 May. This means the interface will be suitable for the Steam Deck, improving the game’s accessibility on the platform. Grinding Gear Games is aiming to ensure the game delivers an optimal experience on Steam Deck, which could also open the door to a future release on Switch 2.

The Return of the Ancients update is intended to completely reshape Path of Exile 2’s endgame. The update introduces a new challenge system and plenty of unique items. There are also new mechanics designed to deepen the player experience even further. With Path of Exile 2’s full release coming in 2026, Grinding Gear Games is focused on completing the campaign, including the addition of Act 5 and Act 6, which are already in development.
