Red Dead Redemption 2 overtakes Wii Sports in sales history

Red Dead Redemption 2 remains a remarkable success and has recently sold 85 million copies. That marks a significant jump in sales and has pushed the game up the all-time best-selling games chart to third place, overtaking Wii Sports. The continued sales growth of Red Dead Redemption 2 is surprising, especially given that Rockstar Games still hasn’t released a 60fps patch for modern consoles, something fans have been asking for since launch.

Technical performance and fan requests

On current-gen consoles, Red Dead Redemption 2 still runs at 30fps, which has disappointed some fans. Demand for a 60fps upgrade on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S has grown, but so far there appears to be no official response from Rockstar Games. Meanwhile, Red Dead Online, the game’s multiplayer component, has fallen well behind GTA Online in both updates and revenue.

There have been plenty of rumors about Red Dead Redemption 3 being in development. In an interview, Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser suggested that a sequel would “probably happen.” Roger Clark, who played protagonist Arthur Morgan, also said he is “certain” fans will see Red Dead Redemption 3 “one day,” though he couldn’t share any further details. Those comments come as Rockstar’s attention is largely focused on Grand Theft Auto VI.
