Rockstar unveils new GTA Online missions made by players
Rockstar Games has announced that players will soon be able to create their own missions for Grand Theft Auto Online using the Mission Creator tool. It’s a fresh approach for the game, putting the community’s creativity front and center.
New possibilities for players
The Mission Creator tool was first introduced in December and lets players build their own missions within GTA’s online world. That adds a new layer to the gameplay while also creating a steady stream of fresh content for players to enjoy.
Community Mission Series
The first entry in the new Community Mission Series is called Old School Hits, inspired by the original Grand Theft Auto trilogy. Rockstar is teaming up with well-known community content creator GTA Series Videos to launch the new series. Old School Hits goes live on 30 April.
Limited-time events and rewards
Players who take part in the Old School Hits event will earn boosted rewards, with four times as much GTA$ and RP available during the limited-time mission. Rockstar hasn’t yet revealed how long the event will run, leaving the community waiting for more details.
Timeline
December 2023: The Mission Creator tool is introduced in GTA Online.
28 April 2026: The Community Mission Series is announced and Old School Hits is revealed.
30 April 2026: The Old School Hits event begins for players.
Future mission creations
Rockstar says Old School Hits is only the beginning of a series of more player-made missions. After the Old School Hits event, players will be able to submit their own creations, with the chance to earn in-game rewards, including a unique varsity jacket and a GTA$10,000,000 prize for those whose missions are selected.
In its announcement, Rockstar said more community-made missions will be added later in 2026, and players can look forward to a range of new GTA Online events, including motorsport-based activities and a Community Race Series set to begin in the coming months.
With ongoing updates and new content, Rockstar is aiming to deepen community engagement, especially with expectations building around the launch of GTA 6 in November.
