Sir Idris Elba receives knighthood from King Charles

Iconic English actor, DJ and rapper Sir Idris Elba received a knighthood from King Charles at Windsor Castle on June 3, 2026. The honour had been announced earlier at the end of 2025 as part of the 2026 New Year Honours.

Awards for his services to young people

The 53-year-old Elba received the honour for his contribution to supporting young people. In 2022, he founded the Elba Hope Foundation, which focuses on helping young people reach their potential.

Impressive career

Sir Idris Elba rose to fame for his role as Stringer Bell in the HBO series The Wire and as DCI John Luther in the BBC One series Luther . Beyond his film and television career, he has also contributed to franchises such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the DC Extended Universe, Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog .

Documentary with King Charles

Elba is currently working with King Charles on a Netflix documentary marking 50 years since the founding of the King's Trust. At 18, Elba attended the National Youth Music Theatre, using a scholarship from a charity formerly known as the Prince's Trust.

In the near future, audiences can see Elba as Man-at-Arms in the new series Masters of the Universe , which is set to release this month.
