Valve, the company behind Steam and the Steam Controller, has recently had some details leak about the upcoming launch of its new product, the Steam Machine. This mini-PC gaming device, designed to sit under your TV, is expected to arrive in multiple models. The move should give users better access while also putting an end to the scalper behavior that has affected the market for Valve’s previous products.

Technical specs and availability

According to the leaked information, the Steam Machine will be available in four different SKUs at launch. Two of those models have already been confirmed: a 512GB version and a 2TB version. These options give gamers some choice when it comes to storage, although the 512GB model is already being questioned given the growing size of modern games. Titles like Forza Horizon 6 are said to take up nearly 160GB, which means the 512GB model may not leave enough room for multiple AAA games.

Purchase restrictions

To discourage scalpers, Valve has put new rules in place for buying the Steam Machine. Customers will need to register through a queue to be eligible for pre-orders. There is also a limit of one device per customer, and buyers must have a Steam account in good standing, meaning they must have made purchases before April 27, 2026. The goal is to make sure more genuine gamers get access to the new hardware.

Why scalper protection is necessary
