Steam Machine: launch and price estimates

At the start of 2026, Valve was reportedly expecting Steam Machine to launch in the first quarter of the year. That timeline was later adjusted to the first half of 2026. It now seems the launch could happen toward the end of June, given recent Valve updates that added a 'welcome tour' experience for new users on 29 May 2026. Updates like this are often seen as a sign that a product is nearing release.

Industry analyst Mat Piscatella has also made predictions about Steam Machine pricing. According to his recent analysis, the base model could cost around $1,399, while the high-end version may reach $1,699. These estimates are based on current consumer electronics pricing pressures, which have risen due to global shortages of storage and memory components.

Price increases for Steam Deck

The price of the Steam Deck has also seen a major jump. The high-end Steam Deck OLED with 1TB storage rose from £569 to £779, while the 512GB version increased from £479 to £649. In the United States, prices also climbed, with the premium handheld model going from $649 to $949. Valve said the increases were due to a shortage of solid-state storage components, which are also in demand from other sectors such as artificial intelligence.

The 'welcome tour'

The new 'welcome tour' added to the Steam backend may be a tutorial-style experience designed to help users learn the Steam Machine's features. This appears to mirror the approach used for the Steam Controller, which launched recently.

According to Bradley Lynch, another well-known analyst, a similar welcome program for the Steam Controller was added to the backend about 25 days before the official price and launch announcement, which could point to a similar timeline for Steam Machine.

Even with all these changes and expectations, it remains unclear how the market will react, especially given current pricing pressures. Supply chain challenges and rising costs make it difficult to predict the final consumer price of Steam Machine with any confidence. As a result, anticipation is high among gamers and analysts alike as they wait for confirmation of both the launch and pricing of this new product.
