The Super Mario Galaxy Movie digital download available next week

Nintendo's latest animated film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, will soon be available for digital download, DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD. The official purchase release date is Tuesday, May 19, 2026. This comes after seven weeks in theaters, where the film has so far grossed $942 million.

Financial and critical reception

With a production budget of $110 million, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been a financial success despite mixed to negative reviews. IGN gave the film a 6/10. Compared with the first The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed $1.36 billion in 2023, this film seems less likely to reach $1 billion.

Special features of the digital release

The home release will include more than an hour of special features, though no deleted scenes are included. The special features are:

Future developments

There is already speculation about a third major Mario film, which is expected to arrive in 2029, along with a spinoff film centered on Donkey Kong in 2028. Nintendo will also release a live-action The Legend of Zelda film next year, with the date recently confirmed.
