Manga creator Syundei faces social media hate after Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! controversy

Syundei, the creator of the popular BL (Boys' Love) manga Go For It, Nakamura-kun!!, has deleted her account on X after becoming the target of harassment over a scene in the manga that was perceived as romantic. The scene, which involves a high school student contacting his teacher, was included in the latest episode of the anime adaptation, which aired on April 22, 2026. The romantic tension in the anime version had been toned down at Syundei's request.

Controversy and social media harassment

Trouble for Syundei began when the anime adaptation of Go For It, Nakamura-kun!! premiered on April 2, 2026. Soon after launch, users on X began commenting on a "what if" illustration by Syundei, which depicted a fantasy involving Hirose and his 25-year-old teacher, Sou Otogiri, something that does not appear in the manga itself. In the original manga, Hirose's crush on his teacher is portrayed as one-sided.

Syundei's final post on X, published on April 11, 2026, included a reflection on her abilities as a manga creator in light of the growing complaints she was receiving. These posts led to her decision to close her account, as she felt speechless at the idea that she might not be able to create content that met everyone's expectations.

The anime production's response

The controversial scene, in which the teacher and student exchange contact information, was handled with some restraint by the animation team amid intense viewer reactions. Syundei had explicitly asked them to minimize the implications of the relationship in the anime and to emphasize that the teacher-student dynamic should go no further than the necessary interaction.

In a statement distributed by the webcomic publisher HERO's WEB, it was stressed that neither the author nor the production team intended to promote inappropriate relationships between teachers and students.

Syundei's future projects

Syundei has also announced that in future works she will avoid depicting age-gap romantic relationships, including situations where teachers and students interact inappropriately. This decision was partly inspired by the recent rise in shocking incidents involving adults abusing minors.

Even so, her current BL work remains popular with many fans, and the discussion around the anime has only drawn more attention to Go For It, Nakamura-kun!!, putting it under even closer scrutiny.
