Scobell shared his decision in an Instagram post, where he called for an end to the harassment of girls at his school. He said: "Please stop sending death threats to ANY teenage girl who may somehow be associated with me. It’s not fair to them or their families. Maybe just stop sending death threats in general. That’s just not cool. Kinda weird that I have to say this."

Scobell's words are a direct response to a disturbing situation, with screenshots of social media messages being shared. These messages included threats from fans who said they planned to bring weapons to prom, including references to an incident involving Charlie Kirk.
