Blizzard makes Warcraft 3: Legacy available as a separate client

In a recent development, Blizzard has announced that Warcraft 3: Legacy is now available as a separate client on Battle.net. Players no longer need to install or launch the less well-received Warcraft 3: Reforged to access the classic version of the game.

Problems at Reforged's launch

Warcraft 3: Reforged launched in 2020, but it was met with significant criticism at release. The remaster replaced the original version of the game on Blizzard's platform, frustrating fans. Many beloved features, such as player profiles and competitive rankings, were missing from Reforged, resulting in a diminished experience.

At launch, several custom maps that were part of the community no longer worked, causing plenty of dissatisfaction. The original version of Warcraft 3 had enjoyed a long lifespan and lasting popularity thanks to its impressive modding community.

Conditions for access to Legacy

The Legacy client is available through the Battle.net app. Players can install the legacy client by selecting the version dropdown at the bottom of their Warcraft 3 screen in the Battle.net app. It is important to note that the Legacy client can only be played offline and via LAN.

Blizzard previously launched the 2.0 update to mark the 30th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise. That update brought numerous improvements, including upgrades to environments, lighting, and the user interface. However, the remaster still falls short of many fans' expectations.
