What happened
Team Ninja has given Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember a release date. The action soulslike is scheduled for 4 March 2027 and will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. That gives the sequel a broad release across four platforms, including Nintendo’s new console and the current-generation systems from Sony and Microsoft.
At the same time, the studio has released a free alpha demo for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The trial version includes a character creator that is still in development, plus online multiplayer for up to three players. So the demo is not just a short combat preview, but also an early test of the character editor and co-op functionality.
The demo lets players explore the open field of Changban. There, they fight alongside Liu Bei’s army against the pursuing forces of Cao Cao and encounter demons inspired by classic Chinese literature. The setting ties in with the historical Chinese backdrop Team Ninja also used in the first Wo Long.
Anyone who completes the demo will unlock the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet as a cosmetic item in the full game. That gives players a concrete reward for finishing the trial version.

Background
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is the sequel to Wo Long, which launched in early 2023. Like the original, the game stays in Team Ninja’s historical Chinese setting, featuring familiar names such as Liu Bei and Cao Cao. The new title builds on the same thematic foundation, but now gets a sequel that already has a playable test version well before release.
The alpha demo is meant as an early test build and offers a first look at the character creator and three-player online co-op. The demo is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, while the full game will later also arrive on Nintendo Switch 2. The reward for completing it, the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet, is a cosmetic item for the full game and creates a direct link between the trial version and the final release.
The demo takes place in Changban, which is the central location in the trial. There, players take on Cao Cao’s troops together with Liu Bei’s army. The demons in the demo are also said to be inspired by classic Chinese literature, matching the series’ familiar mix of historical figures and supernatural elements.
The 4 March 2027 release date also gives Team Ninja a clear roadmap for the full launch. Until then, the alpha demo remains a temporary way to test the game, with an end date of 30 September 2026. The announcement also notes that the game will launch on Xbox Series X|S with day-one availability via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, but the core news remains the four-platform release and the free demo.
