Echoes of the End is an ambitious fantasy adventure that makes its strongest impression through atmosphere. Ryn’s journey to save her brother gives the story a familiar foundation, but the world of Aema adds enough identity to make the trip feel worthwhile. The result is a linear action-adventure that knows exactly what kind of experience it wants to deliver. ## What works The presentation is the immediate standout. The environments are often gorgeous, with a stark, mythic quality that fits the Icelandic inspiration well. Traversal and environmental puzzles also provide a good sense of momentum, mixing climbing, jumping, and light problem-solving in a way that keeps the adventure moving. Combat can be enjoyable too, especially once the skill tree opens up and gives fights more flair. On top of that, the story, lore, and central character dynamic give the game a stronger emotional core than many debut projects manage. ## What holds it back At the same time, the game’s rough edges are hard to ignore. Combat can become repetitive, and some encounters don’t sustain tension for long. Technical jank also shows up often enough to interrupt the flow, which is especially frustrating in a game that relies so much on movement and timing. It also plays things fairly safe. Echoes of the End leans heavily on familiar action-adventure ideas, so while it is competent and occasionally impressive, it rarely feels truly fresh. It’s a promising debut, but one that doesn’t quite escape its own limitations. ## Verdict If you want a linear fantasy adventure with strong visuals, solid traversal, and a likeable story setup, there’s plenty here to appreciate. But repetition, technical roughness, and limited originality keep Echoes of the End from rising above the pack.
