Amazon MGM Studios Allegedly Developing Early Poltergeist TV Series

The 1980s horror film franchise, Poltergeist, is currently in the early stages of development at Amazon MGM Studios for a TV series adaptation. No writers have been attached to the project yet, however, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey are set to serve as executive producers on behalf of Amblin Television, the same company that produced the original Poltergeist film in 1982.

While specific details about the upcoming series remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed the show will exist within the same world as the films. This will not be the first time the Poltergeist franchise has been turned into a series, with Poltergeist: The Legacy airing on Showtime and the Sci-Fi Channel during the late 90s.

The original Poltergeist movie has maintained a cult following since its release, grossing approximately $121 million worldwide against a reported budget of $10.7 million. Following its success, the film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Effects Editing, and Best Original Score.
