Big Changes in The First Descendant Patch 1.0.2 Revealed

Jul 11, 2024 2:05 PM

The First Descendant, the popular looter shooter developed by Nexon, has received a substantial update with Patch 1.0.2. This patch introduces key improvements such as matchmaking for hard mode Infiltration Operations, renaming monster patterns, and easing the punishing grind. It also tackles numerous bug fixes and optimizes elements to enhance gameplay. Nexon reassured players that current meta builds, particularly those involving characters Gley and the machine gun Tamer, will not be nerfed. Additionally, the patch addresses community concerns regarding item drop rates, affirming that the displayed rates are accurate and implementing measures to improve transparency. Despite not addressing aggressive monetization issues or similarities to Bungie’s Destiny, the game has achieved a peak Steam player count of 264,860, landing it in the top five most-played games on the platform.

What improvements were made in Patch 1.0.2 for The First Descendant?

Patch 1.0.2 adds matchmaking for hard mode Infiltration Operations, renames monster patterns, reduces the grind, and fixes various bugs. It also slows down the Instructor robot's speech, increases the drop rate of rare materials, improves visual elements like the Battle Pass Battle Supply Shop, and enhances performance optimization.

The First Descendant, initially launched in 2023, has quickly become a favorite among looter shooter fans. This free-to-play game, featuring cooperative gameplay and deep character customization, draws comparisons to Destiny due to its similar gameplay mechanics and aesthetic. However, The First Descendant distinguishes itself with its unique narrative and character-driven storylines.

This Patch 1.0.2 for The First Descendant brings some much-needed QoL improvements and balances while keeping favorite meta builds intact, which is a smart move by Nexon. It's great to see them addressing community concerns about item drop rates and transparency, even though the game's aggressive monetization still raises eyebrows.

Patch 1.0.2 has definitely hit the sweet spot by balancing gameplay improvements with community concerns, especially with those much-needed matchmaking and grind adjustments. While some issues like monetization are still up in the air, the surge in player numbers on Steam shows that Nexon is doing something right.
