Game developer, Blizzard, is facing backlash from gamers for locking anticipated Diablo 4 skins in Overwatch 2 behind a $40 bundle. The intriguing Lilith skin for Moira and the Inarius skin for Pharah were introduced as part of the $39.99 Ultimate Battle Pass Bundle for Season 7. These skins, inspired by main characters of Blizzard's role-playing game Diablo 4, are exclusively sold through this bundle, creating quite a stir in the gaming community.

Blizzard promoted these Diablo 4-inspired skins as key features of the newly launched Season 7, Rise of Darkness. However, fans are unhappy about the required real-world cash outlay — the only way to acquire these skins.

Apart from the controversial skins, the Season 7 bundle includes nine items like 20 Battle Pass tier skips, a Premium Battle Pass, 2,000 Overwatch Coins, and others. Fans have taken to the Overwatch subreddit to express their dissatisfaction. Feelings of being exploited and general disappointment fill discussion threads.

Notably, some users complained about the price hike for the Ultimate Battle Pass Bundle when compared to previous seasons. Earlier seasons cost $30, and even though the price increased to $40 in Season 6, it included an additional Invasion Bundle. For Season 7, the same $40 does not offer this supplementary value.

This controversy adds to the already negative sentiment around Overwatch 2, currently considered the worst user-reviewed game on Steam. Blizzard has faced criticism over monetization tactics in its other games as well, such as the mounting costs for microtransactions in Diablo 4 and how it monetizes its massively multiplayer online role-playing game, World of Warcraft.
