Bungie Faces Job Cuts as Delays Hit Destiny 2 The Final Shape and Marathon

Oct 31, 2023 5:52 AM

On October 31, 2023, video game developer Bungie has reportedly been affected by layoffs, making it the latest entity in a range of game studios to face downsizing.

It remains unclear how many people are affected by this downsizing strategy, but Bungie's CEO Pete Parsons has sent out an email to staff members, informing them about a forthcoming meeting where they will receive more information.

Part of the news includes the delay of Destiny 2's The Final Shape DLC, previously touted for debut in February 2024 but is now slated for release in June 2024, with the Marathon shifting to 2025.

The year 2023 has proved particularly harsh for industry developers, with several studios, including Media Molecule and Frontier Developments, encountering the same fate in past weeks. CD Projekt Red, Epic Games, Telltale Games, and Team17 have all also dealt with layoffs earlier this year.
