Capcom Claims Leon S. Kennedy Isn’t Fit for Horror—What’s Next

Jun 26, 2025 11:18 PM

Capcom recently shared insights about the upcoming game Resident Evil: Requiem, revealing that Leon S. Kennedy, a fan-favorite character, is unlikely to be part of the main storyline. The game will feature a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, an introverted and fearful FBI analyst, aiming to bring a fresh perspective to the horror genre. Director Koshi Nakanishi explained that Leon's character might not fit the horror theme, as he is not easily frightened. Despite speculation surrounding Leon’s involvement, Capcom has emphasized the focus on horror with Ashcroft's character. The game is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.

nWill Leon S. Kennedy be a playable character in Resident Evil: Requiem?

It seems unlikely, as Capcom's director has stated that Leon is not a good fit for the horror-focused narrative due to his combat experience and lack of fearfulness. However, Capcom has not completely ruled out his involvement, leaving room for speculation among fans.

Resident Evil has been a cornerstone of the survival horror genre since its inception in 1996, with various reboots and sequels expanding its lore and gameplay. Characters like Leon have gained immense popularity, particularly with the success of Resident Evil 4, which shifted the series toward more action-oriented gameplay. With Resident Evil: Requiem, Capcom aims to blend psychological horror and fresh characters to revitalize the franchise for both new players and longtime fans.
