Check Out More from No Rest for the Wicked by Ori Developer

Mar 01, 2024 4:15 PM

Moon Studios, the developer known for the widely acclaimed Ori series, has announced new details about their next endeavor: an action RPG titled "No Rest for the Wicked." The game was first unveiled at The Game Awards late last year, offering a darker and more realistic aesthetic than the Ori games. Set in the year 841, players will navigate through political intrigue in a story where the king has died and his arrogant son Magnus has claimed the crown amidst the return of a plague known as the Pestilence.

"No Rest for the Wicked" will feature a group of sacred warriors called Cerim, who possess special powers to combat the Pestilence. The studio promises precise combat systems and describes the game as an "epic saga," featuring a handcrafted world designed to be visually striking. Six years in development, this title is a passion project for Moon Studios and is expected to enter Early Access on Steam, with plans later to expand to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A recent delay has pushed the release into the second quarter of the year.

What can players expect from the combat and mechanics in No Rest for the Wicked?

The developers have promised a precise combat system and various game mechanics that will be showcased in an upcoming 'Insider Showcase' livestream, available to watch on YouTube and Twitch.

No Rest for the Wicked is a significant departure from Moon Studios' previous titles, which were grounded in the platforming genre with a focus on storytelling through gameplay and visual artistry. Ori and the Blind Forest, released in 2015, followed by Ori and the Will of the Wisps in 2020, earned critical acclaim for their beautiful, hand-painted art styles, emotionally driven narratives, and challenging platforming mechanics. The shift to an action RPG indicates a diversification of Moon Studios' portfolio and a desire to explore new storytelling and gameplay possibilities.
