Cities Skylines 2 Chief Stunned by Response to Ad Removal

Nov 06, 2023 5:04 PM

Last week, Cities: Skylines 2 developer, Colossal Order, removed an in-game radio advertisement due to community complaints regarding its offensive nature. The controversial 'Spasm Electronics' ad was likened by gamers to the noises a person makes when having a seizure. The CEO of Colossal Order, Mariina Hallikainen, expressed surprise at the varying reactions this decision elicited within their community.

Facing strong backlash, Hallikainen called for players to stop attacking other community members and the game's developers. The company reaffirmed their commitment to creating an inclusive gaming environment. Confirming future patches will address multiple gameplay issues like bugs in the game's garbage feature and the overabundance of stray dogs.

Furthermore, Hallikainen committed not to release paid DLC for Cities: Skylines 2 until all performance issues are resolved. Urging the game's community to participate in constructive criticism, she pledged continued work to ensure Cities: Skylines 2 reaches its full potential.

Despite anticipatory announcements concerning changes to game availability and PC requirements, Cities: Skylines 2 performed well on launch day, with over 100,000 concurrent players on Steam. However, the poor performance and bugs resulted in a 'mixed' user score for the city-building game.
