Coppola’s Megalopolis Expands into Graphic Novel Experience

Apr 25, 2025 3:03 PM

Francis Ford Coppola's highly talked-about film Megalopolis, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival and received mixed reviews, is set to expand into a graphic novel. Titled Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis: An Original Graphic Novel, it will be published by Abrams ComicArts in October. The graphic novel will be penned by Chris Ryall, known for his adaptations of major genre works, and illustrated by Jacob Phillips. Coppola described the project as a "sibling" to the film, envisioning it as an independent creative endeavor that encompasses a broader artistic expression.

The story of Megalopolis revolves around an architect named Adam Driver who aspires to create a modern utopia, facing opposition from the city’s mayor, played by Giancarlo Esposito, who is determined to thwart his vision. This tale presents a contemporary fable reminiscent of Roman themes, depicting the struggle between ambition and governance.

What can fans expect from the Megalopolis graphic novel?

Fans can expect a fresh interpretation of the film's story that goes beyond the cinematic experience, allowing the graphic novel to develop its own narrative style while remaining connected to the original film’s themes.
