Private Division, a label under Take-Two, is developing a Lord of the Rings-inspired game titled "Tales of the Shire" in collaboration with Weta Workshop, a special effects and prop company based in New Zealand.

The game, focusing on the tranquil life of a Hobbit, was initially announced in 2022 but without a title.

While not much information is available about the game at the moment, it's expected to be released on both consoles and PC in 2024.

"Tales of the Shire" joins a lineup of ongoing projects inspired by the Lord of the Rings franchise that includes upcoming titles like "The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria" set for October 2023 and an MMO by Amazon.

Embracer Group, the holder of the Lord of the Rings intellectual property rights, is set to continue bringing the franchise to life in various forms across different platforms after acquiring Middle-earth Enterprises.

With worldwide rights to develop based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit, fans can anticipate an array of games, TV shows, movies, and more, in a bid to make extensive use of the Lord of the Rings franchise.

The impacts of this on the franchise, however, remain uncertain.
