David Hayter, the original voice actor for Solid Snake, stirs the Metal Gear franchise's fanbase with hints of upcoming developments. While promoting his forthcoming retrospect series, Hayter teased that "this is only the beginning" for the franchise. The series will highlight iconic moments from the games. The promotional trailer not only hinted at the upcoming series but also advertised the recently launched Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.
Hayter first became the series protagonist Solid Snake's voice in the 1998 title Metal Gear Solid. He continued to voice the character in subsequent major franchise entries, except for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, where the role of snake was given to 24 star Kiefer Sutherland, causing controversy among fans. The news of Hayter's return to the series is welcomed enthusiastically by long-time fans.
Fans have speculated what Hayter meant by his tease. It is largely believed that the actor may be referring to the unannounced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 or his upcoming video series. Others hope for further remakes and additional content for existing entries. Hayter is also set to feature prominently in the soon-to-be-released Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake as well as the recent Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.
There is also a hint of multiple re-releases following the discovery of evidence by Dataminers. The speculated re-releases include MGS4, MGS5, and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker. However, the launch of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 experienced some initial challenges on PC, and Nintendo Switch players were disappointed to find out that Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3 were not included on the physical cartridge and had to be downloaded separately.
