The scheduled release date for Deadpool 3 may be under threat due to the ongoing actors' strike, according to director Shawn Levy. In an interview with TheWrap, the director shared his concerns explaining the movie, which had targeted a May 3, 2024 release, faced "true risk" if production doesn't resume soon. Levy indicated that half the movie has already been shot and edited. The highly anticipated team-up featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had its production halted in July.
The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) opted to strike in July, banding with the Writers Guild of America (WAG) who began the strike on May 2. Demands included fair pay and the introduction of new business models among other proposals. Although the WGA ended its strike in September, no agreement has been reached by the actors, with Hollywood studios backing out from negotiations recently. This has led to Levy's reduced confidence in Deadpool 3's designated release date.
Despite the uncertainty around the release date, Levy maintained an enthusiastic tone about the upcoming movie, promising a "raw, audacious, very much R-rated" viewing experience. This is based on everything he has shot till now which includes both Reynolds' Deadpool and Jackman's Wolverine in their superhero roles.
