In the second episode of Loki Season 2, a new development has seen Sylvie (played by actress Sophia Di Martino) in possession of a mysterious glowing object, leaving fans intrigued about its significance. Director Dan Deleeuw provided some enlightenment: Sylvie holds "He Who Remains' talisman". If you remember from last season, Sylvie killed 'He Who Remains', consequently acquiring his powerful, multifunctional device which enables both timeline-crossing and teleportation.
The second episode, titled "Breaking Brad", followed Loki and Mobius relentlessly pursuing Sylvie, only for their paths to diverge towards the end. This left Sylvie back to her uneventful life in a small town, working at the local McDonald's in Broxton, Oklahoma.
The episode finishes with a suspenseful scene where Sylvie gazes at the glowing talisman on the hood of her pickup truck before the screen abruptly blacks out. Deleeuw suggested that Sylvie, still inherently a Loki, wouldn't let go of such a powerful "key to the universe", despite her seemingly content life in the timeline. This aligns with her anticipation of other Lokis or He Who Remains’ variants making an appearance, leading to new challenges.
While the TVA tech may initially appear clunky and separate, previous insight from Season 1 director Kate Herron points out that the technology is, in fact, futuristic and combines both devices.
Despite having only reached the second episode of Loki Season 2, the character Sylvie has quickly become central to the plot. However, for those expecting a multiverse-related twist in Loki's new season, IGN advises to lower their expectations. At this point, it remains to see where Sylvie's next move with the talisman will take us.
