Disney Plus Launches Serious Password Sharing Crackdown in 2024

Disney is intensifying its password sharing crackdown for Disney+ users across different households, effective September 2024. CEO Bob Iger confirmed that following a pilot program in June 2024, the company aims to implement this policy comprehensively. Iger indicated that there has been no backlash regarding the initial notifications sent to users. This initiative was first announced in August 2023, originally targeting a summer 2024 rollout, with ongoing developments focusing on technology enhancements to increase profitability. Beginning October 17, 2024, Disney+ will also see a price hike, with ad-free subscriptions rising to $15.99, reflecting a significant increase since its launch in 2019. This comes as the streaming service reports its first profitable quarter.
