Despite rumors surging about Nintendo's upcoming next-gen console, Doug Bowser, the boss of Nintendo of America, has refrained from providing any comments. However, he stressed on the importance of having a Nintendo Account during the upcoming "transition".

This comes at a time when Nintendo is expected to launch its new generation console in 2024, with the existing console, Switch, being six and a half years old. The rumored new console, dubbed "Switch 2", reportedly features a cartridge slot, allows portable use, and maintains an LCD screen partly for minimizing costs. Compatibility with Nintendo Switch games, though, remains uncertain.

In a recent interview with Inverse, Bowser highlighted the participation of the Nintendo Account in guiding the gamers during the possible transition phase to the new console. The Nintendo Account was devised to make the communication and transition smoother, and to reduce any potential successional dips. However, details of any new features in the next gen console remain undisclosed.

Nintendo, in May, hinted at a potential release of the rumored Switch successor no sooner than April 2024. Despite dwindling Switch sales, Nintendo isn't in a rush to introduce the new console. In contrast, the company is committed to supporting the Switch, evident by the company's gaming plan stretching till the end of March 2025. Upcoming additions to the Switch games include a Super Mario RPG remake, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet DLC, and others. Short-term endeavors include maintaining the momentum of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Super Mario Bros. Movie, among others.
