Driver TV show cancelled before you even knew it existed

Jul 14, 2024 8:54 AM

The highly anticipated live-action TV series adaptation of Ubisoft's classic game series, Driver, has been canceled. Initially announced in 2021, the Driver TV show was to be produced by Binge, a streaming service aimed at gamers, which has also been shut down. Ubisoft, however, reassures fans that it is working on other exciting projects related to the Driver franchise despite the cancellation.

Why was the Driver TV show canceled?

The Driver TV show was canceled due to the closure of Binge, the streaming service set to produce the series, as well as the long gap since the last game in the franchise, which likely reduced its appeal.

The Driver series began in 1999 and quickly gained popularity for its intense car-chase mechanics and engaging narrative. The franchise's most recent installment, Driver: San Francisco, was released in 2011 and introduced a unique mechanic allowing players to teleport between cars. Though the series has been dormant, its legacy endures among fans who hold out hope for new developments.

Man, it's a bummer to see the Driver TV series getting canned just when fans were hoping for a revival. But hey, at least Ubisoft's keeping the franchise alive with new projects—fingers crossed for something epic down the line

Bummer to hear about the Driver TV show getting axed; looks like Binge going under took it down with the ship. Still, fingers crossed Ubisoft has something cool cooking for the franchise's future
