Gaming fans, it's time to brush up on your Japanese as Yakuza spin-off Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name won't launch with an English audio option. The game will however be updated with English dubbing at a later date.
Set for a November 9 release, fans waiting to hear protagonist Kiryu Kazuma's new English voice actor will need to be a bit patient. The game will have Japanese audio with English subtitles when launched.
Yong Yea, who will replace Darryl Kurylo as Kiryu in Like a Dragon Gaiden, took to Twitter to share this news a few weeks ahead of the game’s launch. However, he didn’t specify when the English dub would arrive.
"Since Like A Dragon: Gaiden is a few weeks away and many may not know about this, I thought I should let you know the English dub will not be available on the November 9 launch date and will release as a post-launch patch," Yea tweeted.
Expected to be titled Yakuza 8, the sequel - Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is set to launch on January 26 with an English dub option, according to its Steam page.
For those out of the loop, Like a Dragon Gaiden is the digital-only side story to Yakuza: Like a Dragon (Yakuza 7) that follows Kiryu's journey instead of Ichiban Kasuga's, who took the mantle as the series' main protagonist after Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.
The critics haven’t gone soft on Ichiban’s entry with IGN scoring it a 7/10 and saying "Yakuza: Like a Dragon takes some bold steps in a new direction for the series but neglects to maintain its balance."
