Evil Dead: The Game Leaves Store Shelves After Three Years

May 01, 2025 11:14 AM

Evil Dead: The Game, the multiplayer horror title, is being removed from sale on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, according to publisher Saber Interactive. This decision comes just before the game's third anniversary, following the cessation of new content development and the cancellation of a planned Nintendo Switch port. Though new players will no longer be able to purchase the game, existing owners can continue playing as the online servers will remain active for now. The game features iconic characters from the Evil Dead franchise, allowing players to face off against Deadite hordes or take on the role of the demon. However, it struggled to maintain a large enough audience, leading to a gradual decline in updates and support.

Why is Evil Dead: The Game being removed from sale?

Evil Dead: The Game is being removed from sale due to a lack of sufficient player engagement, which caused the developers to stop creating new content and ultimately led to the decision of discontinuing sales while maintaining online play for existing players.

Evil Dead: The Game launched in May 2022 and features a unique asymmetrical multiplayer experience that incorporates characters and lore from the beloved Evil Dead franchise. Players can embody both heroes and villains as they navigate horror-filled environments inspired by the films. Despite initial excitement, repeated content delays and a diminishing player base caused a shift in the development team's focus, impacting the game's longevity.

Shame to see this one go—asymmetrical horror games are a tough crowd, and even a cult classic IP couldn’t keep the lights on forever. At least the servers are sticking around so we can still chainsaw some Deadites while we can Honestly, this feels like a missed opportunity—Evil Dead’s chaotic energy was perfect for multiplayer, but without consistent updates, even the most dedicated fans eventually move on. Here’s hoping the next horror crossover learns from this.

Bummer to see another asymmetrical horror game bite the dust—Evil Dead had such fun vibes, but these games really live or die by their player counts. At least the servers are staying up so fans can still get their Deadite-slaying fix Kinda wild how fast this went from hype to sunset—guess even groovy franchises can’t escape the multiplayer curse. Here’s hoping the diehards keep the matches alive for a while longer
