FINAL FANTASY CREATOR NAMES SHOCKING 'MOST COMPLETE' ENTRY

Aug 30, 2024 11:34 AM

Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has proclaimed that Final Fantasy VI is the most complete entry in the iconic RPG series, contrary to fans' affection for Final Fantasy VII. He believes that Final Fantasy VI, released in 1994, truly excelled in its pixel art and storytelling, marking the pinnacle of the franchise's 2D era. Despite numerous ports and adaptations, there remains a strong demand from fans for a full remake akin to the highly successful Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, director Yoshinori Kitase suggests that creating such a remake would take an estimated 20 years, emphasizing the sheer volume of content in Final Fantasy VI compared to its predecessor. Meanwhile, he noted Square Enix's interest within the development team for reimagining this classic title.

nIs there a possibility of a Final Fantasy VI remake?

While there is significant interest among fans and some developers within Square Enix for a Final Fantasy VI remake, Yoshinori Kitase has stated that it would be very difficult to undertake, especially with the ongoing commitment to complete the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy first.

Final Fantasy VI holds a special place in gaming history as the last pixel art game in the series, featuring a compelling narrative and an innovative steampunk aesthetic. Its influence has shaped the RPG genre, and its characters, including Terra and Locke, are regarded as classics. The game broke new ground in storytelling in video games, making it a high point in Square Enix's legacy of excellence in RPGs.
