First Dog Speedrunner to Debut at AGDQ 2024
Oct 18, 2023 10:46 PMIn an unusual twist for the gaming world, a Shiba Inu named Peanut Butter is set to become the first canine speedrunner at Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2024. The announcement was made by Peanut Butter's owner, user @JSR2gamers, on social media platform X. It is not the first time that the four-legged gamer has proved his gaming prowess. A video uploaded by his owner showed Peanut Butter completing an NES game Gyromite in under 30 minutes.
To enable Peanut Butter's gaming abilities, a special custom controller has been built by JSR_. Without thumbs, a traditional controller would pose certain challenges, so the tailored controller features four separate buttons: A, B, both buttons, and the Select button.
The AGDQ 2024 event is scheduled to take place between January 17 and January 24, during which Peanut Butter and JSR_ will attempt a speedrun of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. This is a significant development not just for Peanut Butter but for the AGDQ event as well, as it also marks its return to an in-person format since 2020 and the first time it’ll be held in downtown Pittsburgh, PA instead of its traditional Florida venue.
Beyond demonstrating speedy gaming skills, AGDQ also raises money for charity, which adds a philanthropic edge to the event. The inclusion of Peanut Butter as the first dog speedrunner is bound to make 2024's event an historic one.
