First Marvel Spotlight Series Will Be Echo
Nov 05, 2023 4:31 AMThe first series to launch under the new Marvel Spotlight banner will be Disney+'s Echo, aiming to cater for fans without any prior knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The head of streaming at Marvel, Brad Winderbaum, stated that the Marvel Spotlight platform would allow for more grounded, character-driven stories, with Echo focusing on smaller, street-level stakes rather than greater MCU continuity. Despite being a spin-off of Hawkeye and featuring the character Echo's first MCU appearance, the series intends to get viewers caught up during its five-episode run, starting on January 10, 2024.
Marvel Spotlight was formerly the title of a comic book anthology series running from 1971 to 1977, which featured new characters or concepts to test their popularity without full commitment to an ongoing project. Echo's inclusion in this category seems to aim for a similar principle within Marvel's TV project landscape.
Viewers keen to learn more about Echo are directed to the recent bloody and brutal trailer for the series, which is Marvel's first to earn a TV-MA rating. There are also insights available from a press preview event for Echo, which demonstrated that the series will deliver high-stakes action well ahead of Daredevil: Born Again's streaming debut.
