Get ready for a blast from the past, because Pokémon Red is about to make its debut in a new Pokémon live-action series. The first trailer for a show titled PokeTsume has just been released. The surprising twist? It's not just about the game, but also how one particular player is deeply affected by it.
The storyline orbits around Madoka Agaki, portrayed by Nanase Nishino, who is a fresh university graduate. Madoka leaves her hometown port and heads to Tokyo for a new life, only to find herself swimming in deeper waters than expected. Her new role at her workplace, ADventure, puts the company's destiny in her hands, and it's a lot more than she bargained for.
Just when it seems like she's about to buckle under the pressure, in comes Pokémon Red to her rescue. Concerned about Madoka's struggles, her mother sends out her old Game Boy along with the original copy of Pokémon Red that Madoka played as a kid. Two decades later, she finds herself diving back into the game, discovering that it might be the key to solving her real-world issues.
Dubbed as the first Pokémon human drama, the series promises to reveal the main character's evolution through her interactions with the game. PokeTsume makes a unique connection between the digital game world and real-life circumstances. It depicts characters like Kageaki Hiyama, likened to a Charmander on the verge of losing his spark, and a not-so-useful co-worker, Yuki Kode, compared to a Magikarp. The hope is Kode, like Magikarp, may also evolve before the series ends.
IGN, who gave Pokémon Red perfect score, sums up the game: "It’s not just a fad, a trend, or a craze. If you don’t have this game, get one, be it Blue or Red. Just make sure you have a friend with the other version if you want to catch 'em all".
