Five former executives from popular gaming company Ubisoft, including the ex-chief creative officer Serge Hascoët and ex-VP of editorial and creative services Tommy François, have been taken into custody by the police. This comes after a year-long investigation into allegations of sexual assault and harassment within the company.
Reports suggest that multiple complaints by the Solidaires Informatique union and two separate victims led to a full-blown investigation by the public prosecutor's office in Bobigny, Paris. From the collected testimonies of nearly 50 existing and past employees, it was revealed that the company had a prevalent issue of sexual violence.
Following allegations in 2020 against multiple Ubisoft departments and studios, various high-ranking employees, including François, Hascoët, and global head of HR Cécile Cornet, had resigned. Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot expressed determination to enhance and reinforce the company's corporate culture and committed to providing a safe and inclusive working space for all employees.
Despite steps taken to strengthen anti-harassment and non-discrimination policies, some employees claim "nothing has changed." Guillemot, reasserting his commitment, mentioned that management holds the responsibility to set positive examples for their teams. He emphasized his personal dedication to improve the workplace culture and bring about meaningful and long-lasting alterations at Ubisoft.
