Epic Games, known for its popular battle royale game Fortnite, has expressed a keen interest in expanding their broad range of crossover skins and avatars to include characters from Nintendo's iconic roster. Despite their successful partnerships with various franchises that brought a multitude of characters into the game, their attempts to add Nintendo characters like Mario, Link, and Samus have been unsuccessful. Sax Persson of Epic Games acknowledges the different strategies between the two companies but holds onto hope for a future collaboration. The recent addition of LEGO Fortnite shows Epic's continuous effort to merge diverse universes into their game, although former Nintendo PR manager Kit Ellis believes that Nintendo's powerful brand and the nature of their characters may not align with Fortnite's gameplay. Epic Games remains persistent in their pursuit, suggesting that the door for Nintendo crossovers isn't closed yet.
Why hasn't Nintendo allowed their characters in Fortnite?Nintendo seems to have a strategy that focuses on the unique value and brand recognition of their characters, which may not align with Fortnite's gameplay and cross-platform nature. Also, former Nintendo PR manager Kit Ellis mentioned that Nintendo doesn't need Fortnite because their own brand and projects, like the Nintendo Switch, are already incredibly successful.
