In a recent report, Fortnite has emerged as the holiday champion, outperforming Call of Duty in terms of playtime on Christmas Day 2024. Research firm Ampere revealed that Fortnite players collectively logged 30 million hours while Call of Duty titles, including Black Ops 6, accounted for 20 million hours of gameplay. Fortnite's festive engagement included activities like attending virtual concerts, which contributed to an average of 2.3 hours of play for each Fortnite user on that day. Despite its lower rank, Call of Duty remains a strong competitor, with Black Ops 6 driving significant player engagement and the franchise attracting 38 million monthly users in November 2024. Xbox also saw a prosperous December, with $465 million in game sales, making it the top publisher in that period.

Fortnite's ability to pull in 30 million hours of playtime on Christmas Day really highlights how it’s mastered the art of blending gaming with social experiences, especially with those virtual concerts. On the flip side, Call of Duty’s 20 million hours is a solid reminder that even with all the new trends, there’s still a massive audience craving that classic shooter adrenaline.
