Jan 31, 2024 11:03 PM

Silent Hill fans are in for a treat as a new game, Silent Hill: The Short Message, has been released for free on PlayStation 5, revealed alongside a fresh trailer for the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake. Silent Hill: The Short Message presents a first-person perspective experience featuring a young woman in terrifying scenarios where she relies heavily on her smartphone. This approach mirrors the famed P.T. demo by Konami and Hideo Kojima, suggesting a possibly similar chilling gameplay experience. Meanwhile, the Silent Hill 2 remake showcases "improved and modernized" combat and benefits from the contributions of series stalwart Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka, with the development led by Bloober Team. This game is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and will eventually release on PlayStation 5 and PC, although no date has been confirmed yet. Silent Hill 2 remains a standout title in the survival horror genre, noted for its narrative independent of the original game and its memorable visit to the eerie town with protagonist James Sunderland.

What is Silent Hill: The Short Message and how can players access it?

Silent Hill: The Short Message is a new free-to-play game with a first-person horror experience, now available for download on PlayStation 5.

The Silent Hill series has long been a pillar of the survival horror genre since its inception on the PlayStation in 1999. Known for its psychological horror, complex storytelling, and atmospheric gameplay, the franchise became famous with games like the original Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2, which are often cited as one of the best horror games ever made. The series went through various iterations and even inspired a couple of feature films. With the announcement of the Silent Hill 2 remake and the free release of Silent Hill: The Short Message, it's clear that the developers are keen to reintroduce the spine-chilling world of Silent Hill to both longtime fans and newcomers to the series.
