Gargoyles, the adored animated series from the 90s, is set to make a remarkable comeback. According to THR, Gary Dauberman is joining forces with James Wan's Atomic Monster to bring a live-action rendition of the series to Disney+.

Gary Dauberman will don multiple roles, serving as the writer, producer, and showrunner for this awaited series, with Atomic Monster stepping in as co-producer. The upcoming series joins other live-action remakes such as One Piece, distinguishing itself as a revival based on an American animated show rather than an anime.

Running between 1994 and 1997, the original series gained a cult following due to its impressive writing, animation, and a uniquely darker approach to cartoon action. It boasted a collection of Star Trek alumni in its cast, including Jonathan Frakes and Marina Surtis, who have previously portrayed Commander Riker and Deanna Troi respectively in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

In a 2021 retrospective piece, it was highlighted how Gargoyles helped to redefine cartoon villainy, showcasing surprising on-screen destruction with characters being bloodlessly shattered to pieces after being turned into stone. This liberty was noticeable in the segment "City of Stone", which featured Demona casting a spell, turning all humans in Manhattan into stone from sunset to sunrise.

Dauberman, the man behind the much-awaited reboot, is celebrated for his work in the Annabelle horror movies, which are a part of Wan's Conjuring franchise. He has also penned The Nun and its sequel while being the co-writer for It.

No exact timeline for the project has been disclosed yet, and the live-action Gargoyles series might take a while before it surfaces on Disney+.
