Ridley Scott has teased details about the sequel to his 2000 epic, Gladiator, revealing that despite being busy with another project, he's ready to resume filming Gladiator 2 at a moment's notice. The movie, which already has 90 minutes of footage, reportedly includes a scene with a baboon attack, inspired by a real-life incident Scott found disturbing. Gladiator 2 has already started shooting in Morocco before halting due to an actor's strike.
The film is set to continue the story of Lucius, played in the original Gladiator by Spencer Treat Clark, with a new cast that includes Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Pedro Pascal. Russell Crowe, the star of the original Gladiator, is not set to appear in the sequel. Gladiator 2 is slated for a release on November 22, 2024, while Scott's other historical epic, Napoleon, has a release date of November 22, 2023.
