Google has announced the release of a new game titled Space Invaders: World Defense, which is an augmented reality (AR) game available on both Android and iOS. This game was launched in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the original Space Invaders. Working in collaboration with developer Taito, Google's AR game sees players traversing the real-world hunting for aliens to defeat.

Space Invaders: World Defense also includes social elements that encourage interaction and teamwork among friends or other nearby players. The game operates on Google's ARCore technology, and to play, a smartphone must have at least Android 11 or iOS 16.0.

It's interesting to note that Apple is also currently exploring the AR market. However, production issues have been reported with their AR product, the Apple Vision Pro headset.
