Hasbro WANTS Baldur's Gate 4, but isn't rushing for it

Mar 19, 2025 10:48 AM

Hasbro is keen on continuing the Baldur's Gate franchise following the massive success of Baldur's Gate 3, which released in 2023 and quickly won acclaim for its engaging gameplay and connection to Dungeons and Dragons. Although developer Larian Studios is moving on to other projects, Hasbro's SVP Dan Ayoub has indicated interest in Baldur's Gate 4, stating there are many plans in the works but also emphasizing a measured approach to its development. The studio is currently focused on creating new intellectual properties while still pledging to explore future possibilities within the Baldur's Gate universe.

Will there be a Baldur's Gate 4?

While Hasbro has expressed interest in developing Baldur's Gate 4, they are not in a hurry to rush the process. They are currently formulating their plans and are willing to take the time necessary to develop a game that meets high expectations.

Baldur's Gate is a cornerstone of the RPG genre, originally released in 1998 and instrumental in popularizing computer-based role-playing games. The recent success of Baldur's Gate 3 has revived interest in the franchise, showcasing how a classic can be reimagined with modern storytelling and gameplay mechanics while remaining true to its D&D roots.

It’s great to see Hasbro recognizing the legacy of Baldur’s Gate and not rushing to capitalize on BG3’s success—quality over speed is the way to go. That said, I’m curious to see how they’ll balance honoring the franchise’s roots with bringing something fresh to the table for BG4.

It's refreshing to see Hasbro taking a patient approach with Baldur's Gate 4, especially after BG3 set such a high bar. Here's hoping they keep that D&D magic alive while giving the next installment room to breathe and evolve.
