Head mission designer of Starfield moves to work at Wyrdsong

Oct 17, 2023 5:00 PM
William Shen, lead mission designer for Starfield, has moved from Bethesda to join Something Wicked Games, who are currently developing Wyrdsong. He announced his departure on social media and a press release subsequently followed.

Before working on Starfield, Shen assisted in developing popular games such as Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. In his new role at Something Wicked Games, he will be the head content designer. This newly established gaming studio is the brainchild of Jeff Gardiner and Charles Staples. Staples has previously worked as a lead designer and design director for Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, while Gardiner has experience working on Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim at Bethesda. Financial backing for Something Wicked Games comes from Chinese company, NetEase.

Wyrdsong, their debut game, is an open-world RPG set in an alternative version of medieval Portugal. The developers aim for players to "challenge the nature of reality", where player choices and their consequences form a significant part of the gameplay. Release dates or platforms for Wyrdsong have yet to be confirmed, though a teaser trailer has already been released.
