Hideki Kamiya, the renowned game director behind Bayonetta, announced his departure from PlatinumGames. The news was shared by Kamiya himself on social media, declaring he will be leaving the company on October 12th. Kamiya emphasized that this carefully deliberated move was steeped in his personal convictions and although not an easy decision, he felt it was the best choice for him. Kamiya intends to continue his game development efforts in his own unique manner.

PlatinumGames also acknowledged Kamiya's departure on their social platforms, praising his significant contributions in terms of creativity and leadership. Kamiya began his career at Capcom, directing popular games such as Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 2, Okami, and Viewtiful Joe. In 2006, he co-founded the Japanese studio PlatinumGames, spearheading projects like Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101. In recent years, he held the position of the vice president of the company and was presiding over a secretive superhero game named Project GG, the status of which post his departure remains unclear.

At the time of reporting, Hideki Kamiya's future plans are yet to be revealed. Analysts have speculated, whether he might establish a new studio, potentially funded by a Chinese firm like NetEase – a step which several renowned Japanese developers have taken recently after departing their previous employers. However, this remains speculation for now.
