The Finals, an eye-catching first-person shooter game developed by Stockholm-based Embark Studios, launched in open beta form and has proven to be highly popular, even causing the developer to struggle to maintain capacity due to the large number of players.
This game was developed by ex-DICE developers, known for their work on the Battlefield series. Despite not having a clear view of player numbers on Xbox or PlayStation consoles, the popularity of The Finals on Steam is evident with an impressive 132,226 concurrent players. This places it as the sixth most-popular game on Valve's platform, surpassing popular titles like GTA 5, Baldur’s Gate 3, Call of Duty, and Battlefield 2042.
Embark Studios has started to hit its capacity limit due to the large influx of players. To ensure a smooth gaming experience for all, the company has decided to introduce a temporary login queue while they work on expanding their capacity.
One notable feature of The Finals is the highly interactive nature of its virtual arenas. Players can manipulate and even destroy the environment to create strategies against their opponents. The narrative of the game is akin to a Hunger Games-like virtual combat showdown, complete with holographic crowds and commentary.
The open beta version of The Finals is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam until November 5.
