Renowned horror director, John Carpenter recently admitted in an interview that he couldn't connect with Greta Gerwig's movie Barbie. The 75-year-old movie veteran humorously confessed, "I can't believe I watched Barbie. It's just not my generation. I had nothing to do with Barbie dolls."
Gerwig's Barbie, which garnered applause for its innovative visuals and witty humor, was a hit at the annual box office.
Carpenter, most famous for his 1978 horror classic, Halloween, appeared to be out of his comfort zone with the Barbie movie. The film's charm and appeal seemed to have gone "right over" his head. However, Hollywood legends such as Richard Linklater did appreciate the creative adaptability of the Barbie character, with Linklater suggesting it was a film "worth seeing a couple times".
Relating to the story of Barbie in the film, Carpenter was rather succinct, saying "She says, 'I don't have a vagina,' and then at the end, 'I'm going to go to a gynecologist!' That's the movie to me." Despite this, he did commend the leading lady, Margot Robbie, calling her "fabulous".
For all Barbie franchise fans, the film will be available on Blu-ray and DVD from Oct. 17. The digital home release took place last month.
