With the release of the highly anticipated game "Starfield," a new wave of engagement has formed amongst communal dubbed "speedrunners." These players are fascinated by not just the exploration and completion of the game, but by how they can do it as quickly as possible.
A remarkable achievement made by one speedrunner, MicroLogist on Discord, has led to a significant discovery in the early days following the game's release. By utilizing the third-person view's unarmed punching animation in an odd manner, he revealed an unexpected trick called 'Zipping'.
Zipping initially was seen as an interesting but minimal time-saver, as it seemed impossible to go directly through walls with the technique. But as other players in the Starfield Speedrunning Discord server began to experiment further, an increasingly consistent method was found. They stumbled upon a more efficient manner called the "QS/QL Zip Clip" that allows players to momentarily clip outside of game boundaries.
With the QS/QL Zip Clip, they found a chance to completely erase four primary story quests that came to be known as the "ATMCB skip." This involved making a move to the top floor quest area, killing a story-essential character, and activating the next quest series that ultimately bypasses the four previous ones.
Thanks to these contributors' diligent effort, Starfield has evolved into a riveting challenge for speedrunners to push the boundaries of gameplay. And it’s still early days with potential for more time-saving techniques just waiting to be discovered.
